Q. What is the DSU Giving Day?

DSU Giving Day is Dakota State University's 24-hour giving campaign that inspires alumni, students, friends, faculty and staff, and supporters to Rise UP together, show pride in their alma mater, and provide essential funding to support current and future students. This annual event shines a spotlight on giving for Dakota State and creates a sense of energy around philanthropy.


Q. When is DSU Giving Day?

DSU Giving Day will take place on the third Wednesday in October annually. This year it will be on October 21, 2020.


Q. What is GiveGab?

GiveGab is a nonprofit giving platform that helps nonprofits to raise money, engage donors and manage volunteers quickly and efficiently. GiveGab offers a full portfolio of simple and easy to use products that allows organizations to function in a more streamlined manner.


Q. Who can donate?

Anyone with a credit card and access to the internet.


Q. Can I participate in the Giving Day if I did not graduate from the University?

Yes! Students, parents, faculty/staff, and friends are encouraged to Rise UP in support of student scholarships on DSU Giving Day. When prompted in the giving form, you select the role you most closely affiliated with. The gifts of many come together to support the transformational university experience for every student in a big way.


Q.What forms of donations are accepted?

MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express donations received through the website on DSU Giving Day will be accepted. (Refer to question below about gifts made by mail, in person or phone for additional information.)


Q. Will I receive a receipt for tax purposes?

Yes. You will automatically receive an emailed receipt acknowledging your gift.


Q. Is there a minimum gift?

There is a $10 minimum donation.


Q. Do I need to create an account with GiveGab?

No. You do not need to create an account to make a donation. The benefits of creating an account include having your tax receipts collected in one location, being able to track your donations, follow the charities you support, and engage in future volunteering and donations. Your tax receipt is emailed immediately upon processing your donation. To claim a donation as a deduction on U.S. taxes, you should retain the donation receipt as an official record.


Q. Can I make donations via a mobile device?

Yes! Simply visit dsu.edu/givingday.


Q. Where does my Giving Day gift go?

You can direct your gifts to support student scholarships for any college or sport of your choice. Multible gifts can be made in the same transaction if you would like to support multiple areas. 


Q. Will my gift – if made in advance of the Giving Day – help populate the leaderboards?

Yes! Gifts made in advance of DSU Giving Day through dsu.edu/give (and indicate “DSU Giving Day” as the Scholarship Designation) will be displayed on the leaderboard when it goes live at 12:00 a.m. on October 21, 2020.


Q. Is my payment secure?

Absolutely – DSU Giving Day is facilitated by GiveGab, a company who has partnered with Stripe, a PCI Service Provider Level 1 (the most stringent level of certification possible), to process all gifts made through GivingDay.org. Read through Stripe's security documentation online.

Q. Can I send a gift by mail, in person, or phone?

Yes. However, only gifts made online through the DSU Giving Day site will be represented on the DSU Giving Day leaderboard immediately. Gifts made by mail, in person, or phone will be manually entered as soon as possible and will only count toward overall totals. Q. Is my DSU Giving Day contribution tax deductible?

Yes. You will receive an email confirmation that may serve as your receipt for tax purposes.

Q. Does it cost anything to give through DSU Giving Day? How much of my donation will DSU receive?

There is a 3% processing fee and a 2.2% (+ $.30) bank fee for donations made using all major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express). You have the option to cover these costs in addition to your gift. If you choose not to do so, your tax deductible gift will be your gift amount less processing and bank fees.


Q. What if I already made a gift to DSU this year?

Thank you for being part of the Dakota State University donor family! We appreciate your commitment and encourage you to make an additional gift of any size on October 21, 2020. We also need your help to promote DSU Giving Day to others. We have created a sample email and social media posts, which are located in the Ambassador Toolkit on the site, to help you do this more easily.


Q. Can I help promote DSU Giving Day?

Please do! We encourage you to share the images and messages that are located in the Ambassador Toolkit. Send an email to classmates, post on your Facebook page, tweet, blog, yell, put signs on your lawn. It's all encouraged!

Q. Can I use my employer's matching gifts funds?

Yes! We strongly encourage you to take advantage of your employer's generosity to enhance the impact of your support of DSU. You can to contact your Human Resources representative for information to initiate the gift matching process.


Q. How will the donation be reported on my credit card?

Gifts made on the DSU Giving Day will appear on donors' credit cards as Dakota State University Giving Day
